This year’s On Your Marks, the annual August charity event at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground and Airfield organised by two Asda employees, broke the 2014 event’s grand total by almost £5,000. And that was despite losing a number of previous sponsors who, together, had added £7,500 to the 2014 result.
Announcing a record £58,843-62 raised for the Orchid male cancer charity, co-organiser John Forde said the result was beyond his wildest dream. “Having started the show some £7,500 down as a result of fewer sponsors than in 2014, we simply didn’t think we would break last year’s record. But we underestimated all our loyal supporters. And what a brilliant show we had. The main arena was awesome and the air show was legend!
“My co-organiser, Chris Goodwin, and I must thank everyone who helped us to achieve such a magnificent result – the car clubs, the truck manufacturers, the sponsors, everyone at Asda and, of course, our hosts at Bruntingthorpe without whom the event could not take place. Indeed, without the generosity of C Walton Ltd, owners of the proving ground and airfield, On Your Marks would not have got off the ground almost 15 years ago or be where it is today.”
Since the inaugural event – where Asda staff and their families, as well as residents living close to Bruntingthorpe, are treated to a massive car and truck show, driving displays and demonstrations and an air show – more than £425,000 has been raised for charities.
Dave Walton, Managing Director of Bruntingthorpe, said he was delighted at the success of the 2015 event. “The record result was achieved despite what had appeared as a potential financial hiccup for the organisers, who depend on the generosity of sponsors. However, the many visitors to On Your Marks – including lots of our neighbours – enjoyed a spectacular day and must have dug deep into their pockets for what is a very deserving cancer charity. It was our pleasure to again host an event that provided so much fun for so many people and whose proceeds will benefit those suffering from cancer.”
