Organisers of a major new show for light commercial vehicles have chosen Bruntingthorpe as the venue for the inaugural event. Major van makers are queuing up to participate, with several already booked in at DRIVEit@Bruntingthorpe taking place on July 10th, 11th and 12th 2014. The showcase event is expected to command a large attendance of key van operators and professionals.
David Walton, managing director said: “It’s a huge tribute to our events team and our ability to accommodate large gatherings of people and vehicles that Driving Events & Video Limited have chosen to hold their inaugural event at Bruntingthorpe. We are looking forward to welcoming this new ‘hands-on’ show – and its many visitors – to what the organisers clearly believe is the ideal location. As with many of the events held here, it will bring a wide range of opportunities for local business and commerce including hotels, caterers and material suppliers. And we hope that it will become a regular in the calendar of important automotive industry exhibitions.”
Mr Walton says the timing of DRIVEit@Bruntingthorpe could not be better. “There’s been a steady improvement in the LCV market and that is poised to accelerate following the recent announcement by Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England, that recovery of the nation’s economy has really taken hold. Coupled with his optimistic forecast for the speed of growth, unemployment coming down quicker and a fall in inflation, it’s the ideal opportunity for van makers to showcase their products.”
Citroen, Peugeot, Fiat, Isuzu, Renault and China’s DSFK were among the first to commit to exhibit and event organiser, Rob James, says more are poised to sign-up. “Reaction to the announcement of the event has been extremely positive,” he adds. “The show will provide visitors with a unique opportunity to perform back-to-back, in-depth vehicle appraisals, all in one safe and controlled location. This really does give the buyer of light commercial vehicles the best environment from which to make an informed decision on not only which vehicles to buy, but also how to fund the acquisition and what other products are available.
“Bruntingthorpe boasts some of the finest facilities for a proving ground in Europe. Visitors will be able to put vehicles through their paces on six miles of track. There will be simulated road conditions for a realistic drive experience, a rough-terrain centre for showing off the capabilities of ATVs, a tough off-road course for serious 4x4s, a handling circuit and a mile of motorway to show-off lane-guidance and collision-avoidance products. Everything from vans and light trucks up to 7.5 tonnes, 4×4 pick-ups, car-derived vans, minibuses, hybrids and electric vehicles will be available.
“There is no dedicated light commercial vehicle show in the UK or an event purely for the light commercial vehicle operator. But DRIVEit@Bruntingthorpe will bring together the buyers and sellers for three days at a unique event in a unique venue.”
The Freight Transport Association has lent its support to the event through its Van Excellence programme by holding the finals of the Van Driver of the Year award at DRIVEit@Bruntingthorpe, and Van Excellence partners will be exhibiting too.
Van Excellence is an industry-led initiative that aims to enhance standards of van operator compliance, celebrate operators who demonstrate excellence and represent the interests of the van industry.
The show website, www.driveitat.com is now live, enabling potential visitors to register interest for event tickets. Once visitors have applied for tickets, they will be offered the opportunity to book test drives online to maximise their time at the event. For visitors wishing to spend more than a day at DRIVEit@Bruntingthorpe, special hotel rates have been negotiated with GoLeicestershire.
